Phoenix Fans

January 30th, 2009

So here is my current gripe.

I am a Dallas Cowboys fan (let the hate mail begin) but the one thing that any of you cannot deny about us Cowboy fans, just like all major sports team fans, is that we back our team. When my team goes 5-11 for 3 years straight, I wear my Cowboys jersey every Sunday, hoping, praying that Quincy Carter or Drew Henson will be the answers to our prayers.

I know that they are not, but my heart gives all hope that they are. I struggle with my team when they struggle. Then I move out here to Arizona and. what do I get, a bunch of half-hearted fans that ride high when the sails are filled with air, but disappear when it all gets bad.

I have much respect for you guys who have worn Cardinals jerseys through the last 19 pointless years, but what about the people that fill the other 75% of the stadium. I have not seen as much Cardinal pride in the last 3 years, as I have in the last 2 weeks.

I understand that inflation will occur during the playoffs but this is ridiculous. This has always been a Phoenix Suns backed town but now that the Suns have faltered, all I hear is “well we got the Cardinals”. I mean they have a baseball team here that has won a world series against the greatest team of all time, beating the greatest closer of all time, and still they cannot fill that state of the art stadium.

This is a show-me world, so show me Phoenix fans, show me you all can be part of any sort of tradition. Show me you can back any of the teams you have through thick and thin. Until then, put all your Cardinal gear away. Put it away until you can show that you belong with the fans of teams that matter. Teams that have their stadium filled through thick and thin, teams like the Packers, Steelers, Giants, Jets, Patriots and Cowboys. All the teams from Philly, the  Lakers, Knicks, Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, Chicago Cubs (who have not won in a whole CENTURY but sell out) and the other teams going through the tough times but still sell out.

The day I go to a Cardinal game and more than 80% of the game IS Cardinal fans, I will believe you really care about your teams and I will accept all the so-called pride you all have. Until then quit wasting your money on things that do not matter to you because you are an embarrassment to the word fan.

I can deal with my team not making the playoffs, but even that requires a few drinks to cope with, though I cannot deal with fake fans talking up the team they have not followed until recently, reciting word for word for what they hear on ESPN. Show me Phoenix fans, that you can think for yourselves and back a team through anything it goes through. Until then, shut up and don’t complain when other teams take over your city when their team comes to town, for you have never done anything to stop it.

This is so true I feel bad for the 10% who are true arizona fans I am sorry that the 90% that are not that put this on you.

I moved to Arizona in August. I never saw anyone walking around with a Cardinal’s jersey until the last few weeks or so. Now I see windshields on cars all painted up with, “Go Cardinals”. Yet in the beginning of the season I did not see ONE car with anything about Cardinal’s on it.

Oh well….everyone wants something good to latch on to. Why not a team that is doing well. Pathetic? Yes. Human nature though.

My gripe is that this same thing thats going on with Cardinal fans right now is exactly where all the Dallas Cowboys fans came from in the 90’s. I got so much Dallas Cowboys in the 90’s I get sick when I see the Cowboy star! Now the puffy Cardinal Starter Jackets will be selling like hotcakes! Oopps this isn’t 1995! haha

PS. not a Cardinal Fan, just a Cowboy hater!

Haha I will agree that we did receive a lot of bandwagon fans in the 90’s but the fact of the matter is when you go to Texas Stadium, and we are playing (insert ANY team here), it is still a sea of blue and silver in the stands. The day the Cowboys come to this city, and i attend the game to a despicable 90-10 Cardinal to Cowboy fan ratio, i will no longer call the fans of Phoenix phans. All teams have fake fans but we have enough real fans to fill a stadium. @Drew
